Background to
Olympus Olive Contractors
Keith & Joy
Boyd began planting olive trees 4 years ago & today have a small grove of
1200 trees at Lockwood (12km south of Bendigo). They realised at the time
that there was an unfilled need for mechanical harvesting in the olive
industry and spent the next few years researching the harvesters that were
available. Whilst mechanical olive harvesting is still a fledgling
industry, there are a number of harvesters available, from inventions that
have been made to fit on tractors, converted coffee harvesters to large
straddle harvesters and tree shakers. After initially trialling a tree
shaker in 2003, Keith and Joy have now decided on an over the row, self
propelled olive harvester for the 2004 olive harvest following field
trials that demonstrated high efficiency and minimal tree damage.
As owner
growers, Keith and Joy understand the importance of looking after your
investment, and providing a flexible cost effective service.
