Masonic Scholarship FundA charitable initiative by the Lodges of Bendigo
The Bendigo Masonic Scholarship Fund was formed in 1990 to encourage school students who had demonstrated effort and application in their studies, and who were about to make a transition in their schooling from primary to secondary or from junior to senior secondary. It is funded by donations from the various Lodges and Orders of Bendigo and is administered by a volunteer committee through the Bendigo Masonic Centre Hall Board.
In 2004, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first Masonic meeting in Bendigo, awards totalling $2,500 were made to primary school, secondary school and university students. Veronica Mitchell, a social work student at La Trobe University, was presented with her award at the Heyward Library on La Trobe's Bendigo campus in December 2004:
Each year schools are invited to nominate students they feel fulfil the award criteria and these names are submitted to the Committee. Several awards are made, usually following a pattern of:
