The Lodge Composite No. 314

The Lodge Composite was formed in 1923.  There was a great influx of new members into Freemasonry immediately after the First World War, though Composite was actually formed as a research lodge where brethren could present prepared papers on particular topics of Masonic interest and discuss concepts in a serious and academic way.

This role gradually faded over the years and it became a general lodge.  By the late 1990s it was struggling for officers to undertake the various roles necessary to keep it operating and so, after careful consideration in early 2001, the brethren of the Lodge Composite decided that they were unable to continue as a viable lodge.  Therefore, they decided to affiliate with Golden & Corinthian Lodge.  This involved Lodge Composite returning its warrant to Grand Lodge and its members automatically becoming joining members of Golden & Corinthian.

This historical ceremony, and transition, took place on Tuesday July 10th 2001.  Around 30 brethren met formally and, in a simple but moving ceremony, closed the lodge and returned the warrant to RWBro. Ernie Bell PJGW, the Grand Master's representative.  Immediately afterwards, Golden & Corinthian met and welcomed the affiliating brethren.

The Masonic journey of the Composite brethren continues.  The line is the same; they have just changed trains.
