L'Huillier Family
Gathering
"150 Years since Remy Felix and Elizabeth LHuillier and
family
left France for a New Life in the Colony of Victoria, AUSTRALIA"
The Family
Gathering was held on
Saturday,12th April,2003
to
Monday, 14th April,2003
in
BENDIGO

The Programme included:
1.A check-in at
Sacred Heart Cathedral Hall[Approx. 2pm Saturday Afternoon] Information was available at this meeting
for a self guided tour of the important sites to see around Bendigo.
This included many sites that were very special to our family.
The Bendigo cemetery were many of the first family are buried,
shops that were owned at one time by the family
and a trip out to Mandurang where we could see first hand
the land that Felix owned.
A small part of that land was able to be walked upon.
This gave many a real sense of history.
There was a display of Memorabilia and about 70 people attended
and had a chance to catch up with many members of the family
they had never met.
A similar self guided tour of the Places to see in
and around Pyramid Hill was also handed out for family members
going to Pyramid Hill on the Monday.
Everyone had a great chat over Afternoon Tea
and were able to see where they come in the family
from the Charts on the walls.

2. Luncheon at Bendigo & District R.S.L. [Sunday Lunch] About 110 family members attended the
Luncheon.
Members checked in and signed the guestbook and then were seated at tables of 10.
The highlight was being able to have the portrait of Remy Felix L'Huillier on the stage.
Many members had there photo taken with this man
responsible for them being here.
Thank you Roger and Joan for bringing it all the way from Queensland.
Display of Memorabilia from the day before was there as well. The luncheon was the main
event of the weekend
and members met many other members who they never knew.
existed until then.
It was hard to get everyone quite enough to eat their lunch
which was enjoyed by all.
Prizes were given to the Oldest descendant, Moira O'Brien [90]
and the youngest descentant Sophie L'Huillier [5mths]
Many other prizes eg. member who travelled to furtherest.
This was Janine LaVallee who came from Noumea.
The oldest non descendant was Marie L'Huillier who was 84.
4.Interesting sites around Pyramid Hill After all the activities of the Sunday
members set out on the hour and half drive to Pyramid Hill on the Monday.
There we were treated to a wonderful display of memorabilia
set up by the Pyramid Hill Historical Society.
They also provided cups of teas for the family members.
Eugene, Gustave and Edmond L'Huillier settled here in Pyramid Hill after they left home.
They had large families so many of the family members took the chance to visit the Church,
the cemetery and the land that these brothers owned. On Eugene's land there is the rements
of their old home. This was very exciting for their descendants. Many had their photos
taken with the road sign that says "L'Huillier lane" After a many goodbyes and
promises to keep in touch family members then set off on the trip back to Bendigo and
eventually back to their homes with many memories of a wonderful weekend and many
"new" relatives.
A big thank to all who came and all
who helped make this Family Gathering
a really special event in the life of our Family.
